Indeed—when you get your paycheck, extract the funds that you need to spend on groceries and shopping in cash, and use that instead of putting it on a card. Not only will you be able to physically monitor your cash flow, you won't be tempted to buy things that you can't afford because you'll know exactly how much money you have.
