"Heyoo! My name is DeAndre', I'm a senior at Baylor University and I love meeting people! In May I'll be receiving a degree in Journalism Public Relations with a minor in Film and Digital Media.

Connecting with people is a passion of mine, and because of that passion, Ive been an R.A. on campus for the last three years. I'm a member of Baylor's Improv Comedy Troupe, The Guerrilla Troupe, and getting out there and interacting with people is what I'm all about. I find that meeting people through humor is a great way to get them to open up and to learn their story. You can tell a lot about a person by what makes them laugh.

Because we're a mix of on the spot improvisation and scripted videos, I spend a lot of my time shooting and editing film. Right now I'm just getting ready to finish up my senior year and then become a news anchor, or the person who does movie trailer voice-overs, or the guy that stacks produce at your local Krogers. If you happen to see me doing any one of those, don't be afraid to say hey!"

"A good friend and I recently sat down to watch the entire series of The Sopranos. That’s right, every whack, every hit and every uttered curse, condensed into a few weeks of watching, thanks to the magic of DVD. However, a few minutes into the first episode, I had to pause and turn to my friend and ask him to turn on the subtitles. Why? I could not understand a WORD that was being said. As a born and raised Texan from Houston, I have spent the majority of my life within the confines of the old yellow rose.

I don’t think of myself as having an accent, but perhaps that’s because the people I know and spend time with have the same accent. Now, I admit, when I get excited or angry or extremely happy, my speech becomes increasingly more Texan accented. But I don’t think I would ever get to the point where I would not be understandable because of it. Everything seemed so angry. An example of dialogue would be, "Let's go too the ice cream STORE! For ICE CREAM!" Innocuous enough until you realize that he was talking to his daughter, and he was yelling. Now maybe it is because I was watching The Sopranos as opposed to, say “The Northern Nightly News.” I’m not even sure there is a ”Northern Nightly News.” Someone google it for me. If you’ve traveled at any length around Texas, you know that there are different accents and dialects in each part of the state. I feel, however, that I could understand what they’re saying, as opposed to needed to see what is being said. I guess that’s why they invented subtitles.

But I remember going to Chicago and they would look at me funny, but being the proud Texan I am I would make them feel bad for being from Chicago and they quickly became uncomfortable because they didn't say "y'all" but would waste time saying "you all"! Wow. I love DeAndre's energy and enthusiasm in the video. The crazy thing is that he normally exhibits this same type of passion in everything he does. The fact that he's been selected to be the head/poster child of so many things on campus proves is evidence of this.
